Great results for Tasmanian retailers

Peter Gutwein,Treasurer

In a win for retailers heading into the busy festive season ABS data today confirms Tasmania's retail trade grew 3.6 per cent over the year to October 2019, the second fastest state in the country. What's more, Tasmanian retail trade grew at the fastest rate in the country in the month of October.

These strong results, which outpaced national growth over the same period, continue to demonstrate a confident market, where Tasmanians are backing their local businesses and supporting local jobs.

That's why Tasmania under a Hodgman majority Liberal Government enjoys nation leading business confidence and the fastest growing economy in the country, with almost 16,000 more jobs and 1600 more small businesses.

While our economy is growing faster than the rate seen nationally, we know there's more to do and that's why we are committed to delivering our plan to grow the economy, create more jobs and continuing investing into the essential services Tasmanians need.
