The first tranche of procurement opportunities for Toowoomba Region businesses seeking to be involved with the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games are now open.
Toowoomba Region Mayor Geoff McDonald said the Games will offer phenomenal benefits to the Region.
"The Olympic and Paralympic Games is the world's largest event. We are extraordinarily lucky that in under seven years' time it'll be unfolding on our doorstep and in our Region.
"Brisbane 2032 will offer significant opportunity beyond the few weeks of the Games themselves. We couldn't be happier that we'll be hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Equestrian events at the Toowoomba Showgrounds, and the opportunities for our Region will extend well beyond that.
"The Games are expected to generate some $8.1 billion to Queensland's economy and Toowoomba Region businesses now have the opportunity to become games delivery partners across many industries," Mayor McDonald said.
More than 50 procurement 'work packages' are now live on the Brisbane 2032 procurement portal (link below).
Mayor McDonald said he was also delighted to accept an invitation to the 'Host Mayors Advisory Group', a formal advisory group to the Brisbane Organising Committee.
"The Host Mayors Advisory Group will be chaired by Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner and will meet regularly to support Brisbane 2032 in preparing for the delivery of the games to ensure local government considerations are incorporated into Games' planning and decision-making.
"I'm delighted to be part of that group to help make Brisbane 2032 the greatest Olympic and Paralympic Games of all time," he said.
