Grievous bodily harm charge, Charters Towers

Charters Towers’ detectives investigating the overnight alleged serious assault of a teenager at a local nightclub have charged a man with grievous bodily harm, Queensland Police say.

Just after 1am police were called to a licenced venue on Gill Street following reports a man had allegedly been punched to the head, falling onto the floor.

A crime scene was declared and an 18-year-old Tully man transported to Townsville Base Hospital with critical head injuries.

A 23-year-old Kirwan man was arrested at the scene and has been charged in relation to the incident. He has been denied police bail and is due to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court on Monday morning, January 23.
