Grievous bodily harm charges in Cairns, QLD

A man has been charged following an alleged serious assault where a teenager suffered a single strike to the head at Trinity Beach on Sunday, Queensland Police say.

It will be alleged at around 12.30am a physical altercation has occurred between two men on Roberts Drive and a 16-year-old boy from Cooktown has intervened to separate the two parties.

It is further alleged that as the boy was walking away from the incident, one of the men approached him from behind and struck him on the jaw before fleeing the scene.

The alleged punch resulted in the victim losing consciousness and falling to the ground.

The boy was treated at the scene for a fractured jaw and transported to Cairns Hospital in a stable condition.

Detectives yesterday arrested a 19-year-old Yorkey’s Knob man and charged him with grievous bodily harm.

He is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on November 16.

The man and victim were not known to each other.
