Grievous bodily harm in South Brisbane, QLD

Police are searching for a man following an assault in South Brisbane this morning which has left another man hospitalised with a serious head injury, Queensland Police say.

Preliminary information suggests that at around 10.15am a man had been walking inbound along Melbourne Street when he crossed paths with another man who was jogging in the opposite direction.

The pair have exchanged words in passing and one man has then turned and struck the victim on the head with his fist.

It is believed the victim then lost consciousness and fell to the footpath.

The man has then allegedly turned away and walked off in the direction of Merivale Street.

He is described as around 170cm with short dark hair and was wearing black shorts with a red shirt tucked into them and white running shoes.

The 48-year-old injured man was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition.

Police are urging anyone who may have seen the man to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
