Ground Breaking Event - Specialist Disability Accommodation

  • · Empowered Living Apartments™ - the first of its kind PWS accommodation model in Australia
  • · Meeting the rising demand for people with PWS to live a more independent and empowered life

Interaction Services – nationally and internationally recognised as a leading services and supports provider for people with Prader-Willi Syndrome – announces it is holding a Ground Breaking Ceremony for its new Empowered Living Apartments™ (ELA’s) accommodation model in Brisbane, QLD.

Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) is a rare and complex genetic condition, linked to the deletion or incompleteness of genes on the 15th chromosomes. Virtually no system within the body and mind is left untouched when this tiny amount of genetic material is found to be missing, duplicated, or altered. "Interaction understands the episodic and unique needs for those with PWS to live an independent life", says Interaction CEO Craig Moore. "People with PWS, although social, don’t always live well with other people. This is where the Empowered Living Apartments™ model has the best of both worlds" Mr Moore continues.

Upon completion of the ELA’s, each person will have their own fully equipped apartment in a complex which also has common areas, where residents can socialise with friends and staff.

We are proud to announce the Ground Breaking Ceremony with special guests including David Robertson and his family.David is one of the first people in Australia to be diagnosed with PWS and – since 1992 - continues to live independently in one of Interaction’s PWS accommodation facilities.

Interaction welcomes all media attendance and enquiries, in the hope that we can create an increased level of awareness and understanding for Prader-Willi Syndrome.

Date: Thursday 18 October Time: 1pm-2pm Venue: 38 Wardle St, Mt Gravatt East
