Minister for Tourism and Culture, Lauren Moss has appointed a new NT Creative Industries Steering Committee to help drive the future of the sector in the Territory and deliver jobs.
Recognising the important economic contribution of the Creative Industries, two industry representatives will work alongside the Department of Tourism and Culture and the Chamber of Commerce NT to develop a new Creative Industries Strategy to grow the economic contribution of the sector.
Ms Louise Partos, Executive Officer of Artback NT, and Mr Paul Thompson, Chief Executive Officer, owner and Creative Director of Storm Cell TV have joined the committee, providing strong industry representation.
The development of a Creative Industries Strategy was identified in the co-designed NT Economic Development Framework as a key action to grow the economic contribution of the creative industries sector.
The Strategy will assess the tremendous opportunities, identify the challenges and propose recommendations for growth and sustainability of the sector including:
- Creative Industries Development Strategy incorporating an assessment of the economic contribution of the sector, identification of the number of businesses within the sector, growth aspirations and overall vision, defining the key priority areas which will drive innovation and investment and build capacity and partnerships
- Creative Industries Development Report including options for the development of an ongoing Evaluation Framework to assess and monitor industry contributions, an analysis on how the industry sector can be best represented and how a Creative Industries Business Council could work in a Territory context.
The committee is expected to be in place for nine months and during this time a range of industry consultations will be conducted with regional stakeholders to capture a broad range of opportunities and to identify the challenges to growing the sector.
This work is expected to be completed mid-2019 and will scope the potential for the establishment of a Creative Industries Business Council.

"The Territory Labor Government understands the importance of our creative industries. The sector is vital to our tourism sector, creates jobs and is an important economic driver in its own right. The recent release of the Australia Council for the Arts' International Arts Tourism report continues to reinforce this.
We welcome Ms Louise Partos, Executive Officer of Artback NT, and Mr Paul Thompson, Chief Executive Officer, owner and Creative Director of Storm Cell TV to the committee.
This committee is important to the development of the new Creative Industries Strategy to grow the sector.
Ms Partos is viewed within the industry as a leader with a strategic view across all art forms and creative and cultural businesses. Mr Thompson has built and maintained a business in the NT creative industries sector for a number of years.

The Chamber will be engaging a project officer to support the work of the Steering Committee in scoping appropriate development frameworks including the possible formation of a Creative Industries Business Council to provide on-going advocacy and support for the sector.
