We're extending a hand of support through our Connecting Neighbours Grants to foster strong local communities, especially during the challenges of lockdown.
The grants will provide the opportunity for individuals and community groups to apply for money to fund a great idea that hopes to make Wollongong neighbourhoods a better place to live, and help people connect with their neighbours in a safe way during the current restrictions.
Projects submitted for consideration can be online, creative ways of connecting without meeting up, or face-to-face projects for a time in the future.
Community members can apply for a grant of up to $250 for project ideas within their neighbourhood or social group, or up to $1000 for projects that have the support of an incorporated supporting organisation.
"It is more important than ever before to find ways to bring connections and foster relationships with people that live close to one another," Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said.
"We're looking for initiatives that involve local residents that builds connections in a COVID safe way.
"People are craving ways to connect with one another during the challenges of current restrictions. These grants are a great way to inspire hope and happiness within our surrounding communities."
Applications could include but are not limited to ideas such as an online trivia night, or online course with neighbours, a treasure hunt or geocache for your neighbourhood, or perhaps an activity for when restrictions ease such as a working bee or gardening day. If you are planning an in-person activity, think about the ways you might be able to adapt your activity if the public health orders change.
