Guild congratulates Dominic Perrottet on appointment as Premier

The Pharmacy Guild of Australia has congratulated Dominic Perrottet on his appointment today as Premier of NSW.

National President of the Pharmacy Guild Trent Twomey said Mr Perrottet had come to the position of Premier at a particularly challenging time for the State.

"The Guild has worked closely with Mr Perrottet before and his strong leadership and political background will help him to lead the State out of the pandemic," Mr Twomey said.

"I also have also been impressed by his knowledge of community pharmacy and the issues facing it."

NSW Branch President of the Guild David Heffernan said Mr Perrottet's experience in senior roles of the NSW Government, particularly that of Treasurer, gave him and his new team a strong background to take on the challenges facing the State.

"The Guild has always found Mr Perrottet to be willing to listen to advice and to act on such advice when it is in the interests of the State," Mr Heffernan said.

"He is committed, passionate and pragmatic and the Guild looks forward to continuing and building on our relationship with the new Premier."

Mr Heffernan thanked outgoing Premier Gladys Berejiklian for her dedication to the pharmacy sector and for her strong focus on health during her time both as a State member and Premier.

"Ms Berejiklian totally understood the sector and how important it is to the overall health system in NSW and Australia overall," he said.

"She also understood the dynamics of community pharmacists being small business operators and how this needed to be factored into policy-making.

"In all my dealings with her I found her to be interested and genuinely focussed on the issues at hand that needed action or clarification.

"We enjoyed a very respectful relationship and on behalf of community pharmacists across the State of NSW I thank her and wish her well for her future endeavours."
