Gumtree will not profit off the customer craze to buy toilet paper, hand sanitizer, surgical masks and other items that have been stripped from store shelves across Australia.
"As a community platform, showing respect and sensitivity to our community of users is of great importance to us. We have been monitoring the community response to the outbreak of COVID-19 in Australia. Based on user feedback, and to curb pricing practices that run counter to the community-minded spirit of Gumtree, from Friday 20 March we will temporarily ban listings for health care masks including N95/N100 and surgical masks, hand sanitiser/gel, disinfecting wipes and toilet paper," reads the COVID-19 Safety Precautions notice posted on the Gumtree website.
"Gumtree operates a report and take down process and we encourage users to use the ‘Report Ad’ function to flag any concerning ads that breach our policies, terms of use, or believed to be unlawful>'
