Six members of the brigade have taken up the Movember challenge to raise money and awareness of the issues surrounding men's health, with some foregoing facial grooming for the month, others taking the fundraising in their stride.

"It's not only Mo-vember, but also Move-ember," said Brigade Captain Malcolm Anderson.

"The girls get into it and try to get some targeted kilometres."

First Lieutenant Andy Dixon is leading the fundraising efforts, and says it's been a big year for the brigade.

"We've raised $826 so far, which has exceeded our goal of $600. It'd be great if we can get to $1000 before the month is up."

Brigade members Damon Moritz, Nigel Rabbitts, Blake Moritz, Sara Showler, and Susan Little also signed up for the challenge.

"The Hamilton Brigade's been doing Movember for about 10 years now. It's become a bit of a tradition. Even our pumper gets into the spirit of things with its own mo."

This year, the team focused its fundraising activities on social media campaigning, as well as holding several morning teas at the workplaces of brigade members.

"We all know someone who's been affected by cancers to mental health issues. And as first responders, we're also exposed to stressors that can compound mental health issues."

Brigade Captain Malcolm Anderson said the annual fundraiser has been well received by the local community.

"Everyone's pretty supportive of the group's Movember challenge."

"It's significant for CFA to be involved, as it's a major component of our rural and regional communities, and it encourages others to get involved."

Donations can still be made to the group at the link below.
