New data from the Crime Statistics Agency has revealed an explosion in unsolved crimes across Victoria, painting a devastating picture of a government that has completely lost control of law and order.
Nearly half of all reported crimes - 46.37 per cent - are currently unsolved. That's 290,871 offences in just 12 months where the perpetrator is still freely walking around in the community.
Under the Allan Labor Government, more crimes are being committed, and fewer are being solved. Victorians are being left to fend for themselves as Labor's crime crisis deepens.
Since last year alone, the number of unsolved crimes has surged by more than 86,000 - a staggering 42 per cent jump in just 12 months.
In the ten years since Labor came to power, the number of unsolved crimes has soared by 66.7 per cent - leaving more victims without justice, and more offenders without consequences.
The most serious crimes are seeing the worst outcomes:
- Unsolved crimes against the person are up 75 per cent in just one year - up 205 per cent since 2015.
- Unsolved property and deception offences are up 37 per cent in one year, and now total 252,089 - with nearly 7 in 10 cases unsolved.
- Drug offences going unsolved have skyrocketed by 104 per cent in just one year, up more than 500 per cent over the decade.
- Unsolved offences against justice procedures - including bail breaches - have more than doubled in just one year, and exploded by over 1,100 per cent since 2015.
Leader of the Opposition, Brad Battin, said the figures were a damning indictment of a government that has failed to protect the community.
"This is what happens when a government loses control of crime - offenders know they won't be caught, and victims know they won't see justice," Mr Battin said.
"Victoria Police are working night and day keep our community safe - but they're being let down by a soft-on-crime government that refuses to give them the resources or laws they need."
"Nearly 300,000 crimes have gone unsolved under Jacinta Allan's watch in just the last 12 months - not because our police aren't working hard, but because Labor keeps tying their hands behind their backs."
"No Victorian should be under any illusion that this government cares about their safety or the safety of their loved ones and property."
Shadow Minister for Police, David Southwick, said Labor's obsession with spin over substance is hurting real people.
"Nearly half of all reported crimes are going unsolved in Victoria. This is a state in crisis - and Jacinta Allan is nowhere to be seen," Mr Southwick said.
"Labor's police cuts, staff shortages and bail failures are catching up with them. And it's hardworking Victorians who are paying the price."
"Community safety should be a government's number one priority - but under Labor, it's become an afterthought."
