Hard landing for high-flyer in Sydney

A man has been charged after BASE jumping from a crane in Darling Harbour this morning, NSW Police say.

About 3.15am (Tuesday 2 October 2018), the 24-year-old, French national, illegally gained access to a construction site on Wheat Road, Sydney.

He allegedly climbed to the top of a crane and prepared his BASE jumping equipment, including a parachute and recording device.

It is believed that he parachuted over several lanes of traffic and Darling Harbour for a short time, before landing on Darling Drive, Pyrmont.

He was apprehended by Darling Harbour Rangers and then taken into custody by officers from Sydney City Police Area Command.

The man was charged with enter inclosed land and risk safety of other by abseiling/jumping off building/structure.

He was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday 17 October 2018.
