Have your say on names of sportsgrounds and a reserve in Maitland lga

The Geographical Names Board is seeking community feedback on three names proposed by Maitland City Council.

Chair of the Geographical Names Board Narelle Underwood said community feedback is being sought on the proposals to name two sportsgrounds in the suburb of Maitland and a reserve in the suburb of Gillieston Heights.

"It is important that place names reflect the character and history of the local area and community," Mrs Underwood said.

"We want to make sure everyone has an opportunity to provide their feedback on the proposed name."

Victor Warby Reserve is proposed for a reserve located on Redwood Drive, in commemoration of the late Victor Warby, a farmer and valued community member within the suburb of Gillieston Heights.

Maitland Regional Athletics Centre is proposed for a sportsground located in James Street, at the end of Odd Street in the suburb of Maitland. The proposed name recognises significant redevelopment of the site to support both local and regional events.

Maitland Regional Sportsground is proposed for a sportsground located in James Street, at the end of Odd Street in the suburb of Maitland. The proposed name acknowledges development of the site to become a recognised metropolitan facility.

Details of the proposals can be viewed and submissions lodged on the Geographical Names Board's website.

The closing date for submissions is 15 November 2020.
