The Geographical Names Board is seeking community feedback on a proposal by Blacktown City Council to name a reserve in the suburb of Stanhope Gardens as Holstein Park.

Acting Chair of the Geographical Names Board Thomas Grinter said feedback was now being sought on the proposal to name Holstein Park.

"It is important that place names reflect the character and history of the local area and community," Mr Grinter said.

"We want to make sure everyone has an opportunity to provide their feedback on the proposed name."

The reserve is located on the former site of Perfection Dairy which used Holstein cows for milk production.

Perfection Dairy was one of the most modern and productive dairy farms in Australia in the 1960s before closing in 1972 following the land being resumed for housing development to accommodate for growing demand in the area.

Holstein cows are renowned for their high milk yield and generations of Holsteins were bred at Stanhope Park.

Located within the reserve are six steel cow sculptures and a cattle dog to reflect the rural history of Stanhope Gardens.

The Geographical Names Board is seeking feedback to gauge community sentiment for the proposed names. Suggestions for alternative names is not being sought at this time.

Details of the proposal can be viewed and submissions lodged on the Geographical Names Board's website: www.GNB.nsw.gov.au

Alternatively, written submissions may be mailed to the Secretary, Geographical Names Board, 346 Panorama Ave, Bathurst, NSW 2795.

The closing date for submissions is 8 July 2022.
