The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) intends to conduct a hazard reduction burn on the south coast of NSW today, 24 April, weather permitting.
The Brogo South hazard reduction burn will be carried out in the Yankees Gap area of South East Forest National Park, approximately 7km North of Bemboka.
The burn will proceed subject to suitable weather and fuel conditions, will reduce fuel loads to better protect nearby communities, support biodiversity and improve firefighter access.
Motorists are advised to drive with caution as smoke may impact nearby areas and roads.
People with asthma or who are susceptible to respiratory problems are advised to keep clear of the area or stay indoors, close windows and doors and follow their health plan.
This burn is just one of many being undertaken by NPWS across NSW as conditions allow. For their safety, the public should not enter closed areas while the operations are underway.
Roads and trails will be reopened once the areas are assessed as safe. Visitors must check NPWS Alerts for up-to-date information on closures.
Planned burns also aim to improve biodiversity and provide safer access for firefighters.
