Headspace Backs Albanese Funding for Bondi Terror Aid

headspace has welcomed the Albanese Government's announcement of a $42.6 million mental health support package to assist those affected by the recent Bondi Beach terror attacks.

We thank Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Minister for Health and Ageing Mark Butler, and Assistant Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Emma McBride for their leadership in delivering this support.

As part of this package, headspace will receive more than $3 million to:

  • Extend services at headspace Bondi Junction ensuring young people and families have access to timely and localised mental health support.
  • Deliver mental health training and education sessions for school staff, students, parents and carers across Australia, helping communities respond to trauma and support young people's wellbeing.
  • Scale-up capacity for eheadspace - a free, confidential online and phone support service with mental health professionals for young Australians and their families.

headspace CEO Jason Trethowan said the funding will help ensure young people impacted by this tragedy can access the right support when they need it.

"This investment recognises the incredible work already happening in the Bondi community and strengthens headspace's ability to provide support. By extending services at headspace Bondi Junction, scaling up our online and telehealth capacity, and supporting schools nationwide, we can help more young people feel supported during an incredibly difficult time," Mr Trethowan said.

"headspace knows the impact of trauma can be immediate and long-lasting, and we're focused on making sure help is available when and where it's needed most."
