Health checks for travellers to Tasmania

Sarah Courtney,Minister for Health

The health, safety and wellbeing of Tasmanians is the Government's number one priority as we continue through the recovery phase of the COVID-19 pandemic.

From today, there is a new screening process for travellers arriving in Tasmania through both our air and sea ports. This is another tool to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 coming into our State.

While our border restrictions are in place and the risk remains low, it is important that we implement further safeguards to protect our health and safety.

All people arriving in Tasmania will be health screened, which involves being symptom and temperature checked.

Part of this process can be completed online in the hour before travelling, to ensure a quicker passage through the port of arrival.

If travellers haven't done the questionnaire when they arrive, they will receive help to complete it when they arrive in the air or sea port.

Anyone with symptoms will be requested to have a COVID-19 test and directed to quarantine at their destination – be it their home, accommodation or government designated accommodation, while waiting for their result.

We know this pandemic is far from over, and we will continue to make decisions based on public health advice to keep people safe from a second wave, to protect our community, to protect our businesses and to protect our way of life.

I urge all Tasmanians to please keep following the rules. Observe the restrictions in place, maintain excellent hygiene practices, get tested even if you have mild symptoms and continue to keep each other safe.
