Helicopter crash Barkly Region

A 30-year-old man sustained serious injuries after the helicopter he was operating crashed 34kms north-east of Lake Nash Station yesterday afternoon.

Police members responded to a beacon activation just before 3pm, and with the assistance of another helicopter, located the wreckage and pilot an hour later, Northern Territory Police say.

The pilot was transported to the Mount Isa Hospital by RACQ LifeFlight and later transported to a Brisbane based hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau will investigate the circumstances surrounding the cause of the crash.
