Georges River Council is inviting community feedback on the draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) 2026–2030.
The draft DIAP outlines the actions Council will take over the next four years to improve access and inclusion for people with disability, their carers and families. It focuses on removing everyday barriers that can limit participation.
The Plan is based on the social model of disability. This model recognises that exclusion is created by barriers in:
-
Attitudes.
-
Systems.
-
Policies.
-
The built environment.
By addressing these barriers, the Plan makes it easier for everyone to take part in community life. This will support a more accessible, welcoming and inclusive Georges River.
Building on the achievements of the 2022–2026 DIAP, the new Plan reflects current community priorities and real lived experiences.
It was co-designed with people with disability, carers, families and local organisations. Through accessible consultation methods delivered in partnership with the Physical Disability Council of NSW, 132 participants shared insights that directly shaped the actions in the draft Plan.
The DIAP also aligns with Council's Community Strategic Plan and Social Justice Charter. This ensures access and inclusion are embedded across Council's planning and service delivery.
Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said, "Our community is at its best when everyone can participate and feel valued.
"By improving access and inclusion, the DIAP supports a community that is more welcoming and supportive for everyone.
"I encourage community members to provide feedback."
The public exhibition period is open until Wednesday 27 May 2026.
