Mornington Peninsula Shire Council is committed to supporting growth in the local agriculture and food industry and building resilience to climate change through sustainable farming practices.
To achieve this aim, the Shire is undertaking research and consultation to develop a five-year Food Economy and Agroecology Strategy.
The project will examine the region's Agriculture, Food and Beverage Industry at an economic, social and environmental level and will consider the impact of recent shocks, such as the bushfires and COVID-19, on the industry.
Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor, Councillor Sam Hearn, said "Mornington Peninsula's Agriculture, Food and Beverage sector is worth an estimated $1.3 billion and is a key contributor to the Peninsula's economy"
"We're now in the community consultation phase of the project and I encourage primary producers, Green Wedge landholders, industry representatives, food manufacturers and distributors to contribute and provide your knowledge and expertise to help shape the Strategy".

The first round of community consultation is currently open and closes Friday 21 August 2020.
Agriculture, Food and Beverage industry stakeholders are encouraged to complete one of two short surveys at mornpen.vic.gov.au/agrofood

There will be additional opportunities to participate in further consultations and contribute to the development of the strategy which will be announced in the coming months.
