Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has called on Queenslanders and Australians to once again join forces and donate to communities affected by bushfires.
GIVIT, The Australian Red Cross Society, UnitingCare, Salvation Army and St Vincent de Paul Society of Queensland have answered the call, combining to ensure every dollar received goes where it’s needed.
"It never ceases to amaze me - whenever help is needed, and wherever we need it, there are people who want to help and these bushfires are no different," the Premier said.
The Premier launched the drive at the Miriam Vale evacuation centre with a $125,000 donation.
"We’ve already seen the heartbreaking impact of these bushfires – vast swathes of land stripped and blackened, properties reduced to rubble and hundreds of families forced to evacuate their homes," Ms Palaszczuk said.
"This is devastating, especially with Christmas just a few weeks away.
"The best way to help is to give cash which is easily transported and supports local businesses.
"We had the Mud Army after the floods but it’s not safe to have an Ash Army. Giving cash is the way to help this time.
"At times like this all Australians pull together, as we’ve seen with the outstanding assistance of interstate fire crews."
The Premier said help is already being distributed.
"The Government’s Temporary Emergency Accommodation Plan has been activated and if you find yourself in need of emergency housing, please register by calling 13QGOV (13 74 68).
"I would also encourage all evacuated residents to register through the Red Cross service, Register.Find.Reunite. which they can do via the Red Cross website – redcross.org.au."
