Heritage Stoneworks achieves certification to ISO 45001

NSW Heritage Stoneworks has become the first government body in Australia to achieve certification to ISO 45001, the world's first International Standard for occupational health and safety.

ISO 45001 sets out processes for improving work safety in global supply chains and helps organisations of all sizes reduce workplace injuries and illnesses.

Director of Heritage Stoneworks Troy Vanderplas said that the achievement was a credit to the commitment of all staff on site to improving workplace health and safety.

"At Heritage Stoneworks we have always prided ourselves on our focus on workplace health and safety.

"Being the first government organisation in Australia to receive the ISO 45001 is a testament to our great people, and the little things they do every day to make our site safe for themselves and their workmates.

"The ISO 45001 also includes 13 requirements for management, so this accreditation recognises just how much health and safety is integrated across the work we do," Mr Vanderplas said.

To receive the ISO 45001 certification, a workplace must also demonstrate a focus on controlling 'all factors that might result in illness, injury, and in extreme cases death'. This includes preventative measures not only physical injuries, but also ill-health in the long term.

"Our introduction of air quality and noise monitoring, hand arm vibration syndrome monitoring, periodic site cleaning, lung screen tests and pre-employment medical checks are some examples of our commitment to eliminating hazards and reducing workplace health and safety risks," Mr Vanderplas said.

Heritage Stoneworks has also achieved certification for ISO 9001 (Quality) and ISO 14001 (Environment) Standards.
