Police nab P-Plater speeding at 215 km/h -Video

Police have released footage of one of the worst speeding motorists detected so far during the Festive Break phase of the Christmas Road Safety Campaign, Queensland Police say.

The 20-year-old P-Plate driver was allegedly detected travelling at 215 km/hour in a 110 km/hour zone on the Flinders Highway at Torrens Creek just after 10am on Thursday, December 28.

The Holden Commodore driver was issued with a high range speeding fine which includes a $1,177 fine, the loss of eight demerit points and an automatic six-month licence suspension.

Police have detected more than 21,000  speeding motorists in the first seven days of the Festive Break and will continue a strong focus on targeting high-risk driver behaviour during the busy holiday period.

Speed is a contributing factor in approximately one in five fatal traffic crashes on Queensland roads.
