High Range Speeding, Glen

Officers from Stanthorpe Highway Patrol have charged a 51-year-old man following a high speed traffic intercept at The Glen on September 4.

It will be alleged around 12.50pm, police observed a 2025 BMW S1000RR motorcycle travelling at 218km/hr in an 100km/hr zone on the New England Highway.

Around 1pm officers intercepted the vehicle on McEvoy Street in Warwick.

The man was fined $1,919 and received eight demerit points.

Warwick Patrol group Inspector Kelly Hanlen said with the start of Rural Road Safety Month this week this incident serves as a timely reminder for all road users to be aware of the dangers posed when travelling on rural and remote roads.

"There's no excuse for travelling at excessive speed anywhere, anytime but even more so on roads where there are several additional road hazards to deal with," Inspector Hanlen said.

"This includes road conditions like loose gravel and narrow lanes as well as wildlife encounters, reduced visibility from dust or fog, reduced lighting and increased risk of driver fatigue.

"I urge all Queenslanders to step up in Rural Road Safety Month by driving responsibly and staying alert on rural roads."

The Queensland Police Service is committed to reducing the number of lives lost on our roads.

Data shows that serious crashes can be significantly reduced when drivers recognise and avoid the 'Fatal Five' behaviours: speeding, drink and drug driving, not wearing seatbelts, fatigue and distraction.
