Highway Patrol puts brakes on Penshurst speedster

A P-Plater has had to explain why his dad will be without a car for the next month after he was allegedly nabbed driving almost 70km/h over the speed limit, Victoria Police say.

Hamilton Highway Patrol officers spotted the Holden sedan travelling south along Penshurst-Dunkeld Road, near Penshurst, at an alleged speed of 167km/h in a 100km/h zone.

The probationary P1 driver, an 18-year-old man from Warrnambool, was pulled over by police just after midday, with the car - belonging to his dad - immediately impounded for a month.

He expected to be charged on summons with speeding and will likely lose his licence for 12 months.
