Hindu Temple Vandalism: Attack on Multicultural Victoria

Liberal Party Victoria

Shadow Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Evan Mulholland, and Shadow Assistant Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Renee Heath, have condemned the disgraceful vandalism of the Shree Swaminarayan Temple in Boronia.

The attack on such an important place of worship is an attack on the values of respect, tolerance and harmony that underpin our multicultural state. The Liberals and Nationals stand with the Hindu community and all Victorians who are shocked and saddened by this senseless act.

Mr Mulholland said the desecration of the temple was deeply disturbing and had no place in Victoria.

"This is a sickening act of vandalism targeting a peaceful community who contribute so much to our state," Mr Mulholland said.

"No Victorian should ever feel unsafe when practising their faith or entering a place of worship. Every community deserves to be treated with respect and dignity."

Dr Heath also expressed her support for the Hindu community and called for a strong response.

"The Hindu community in Victoria is vibrant, generous, and proud. They should never have to fear for their safety or see their sacred places attacked," Dr Heath said.

"Freedom of religion is a fundamental Australian value. We must all work together to protect that freedom and stand up against acts of hate and division."

Both Mr Mulholland and Dr Heath welcome Victoria Police's efforts to fully investigate the incident and ensure those responsible are held to account.

The Liberals and Nationals continues to stand with multicultural communities across the state and will always defend their right to live, worship and contribute without fear or discrimination.
