Hit And Run Charges, Fortitude Valley

Police have charged a man following an alleged hit and run traffic incident in Fortitude Valley on Thursday, May 8.

Around 10.15pm, police were called to Brunswick Street following reports a red Toyota Corolla had struck a pedestrian outside a nightclub.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 33-year-old man, is alleged to have continued driving along Brunswick Street, after hitting the pedestrian, before he struck a street sign and came to a stop.

The driver then, allegedly fled the scene on foot, prior to police arrival.

The man was located a short time later at the intersection of Ballow Street and Wickham Street and taken into custody.

The pedestrian, a 23-year-old man, was transported to the Royal Brisbane Women's Hospital with minor injuries.

A 33-year-old Morningside man has been charged with six offences including one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, driver fail to remain at incident and render assistance and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

He appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court yesterday, May 9 and remanded in custody to reappear on June 27.
