Homicide investigation, Mackay District

Mackay police have charged a 46-year-old woman following a two-year investigation into the suspicious death of a child at Munbura, near Mackay on August 29, 2021.

Emergency crews were called to a Munbura Road address on that date, after a 4-year-old child was reported to have drowned in a backyard pool.

After extensive investigations through Operation Tango Anise, detectives will now allege the 4-year-old child died before entering the pool.

Today, December 8, detectives from the Mackay Child Protection and Investigation Unit (CPIU) arrested the woman at a South Mackay address.

A 46-year-old South Mackay woman has been charged with one count of murder (domestic violence offence) and one count of misconduct with corpse by interference.

She is expected to appear before the Mackay Magistrates Court on December 8.
