Homicide Squad investigate fatal shooting

Homicide Squad detectives are now investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in Lara last night.

Emergency services were called to a Bacchus Marsh Road address just before 6pm responding to reports a man had been shot.

The 34-year-old Lara man was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries.

He died in hospital this afternoon.

Two women, both aged 29 from Lara and Newtown were assisting police with their enquiries and have since been released.

A 35-year-old man from Bell Park was arrested for unrelated matters at the scene and has also since been released.

Homicide Squad detectives will take primacy of the investigation with regional police and detectives as well as Armed Crime Squad assisting.

The exact circumstances surrounding the shooting are still to be determined and the investigation is ongoing.
