Human Rights Awards are back - with a difference

The Australian Human Rights Commission is proud to announce the Human Rights Awards are proceeding in 2021.

After a year of global challenges, we want to celebrate the champions among us who have campaigned, and championed human rights - and we need your help!

Nominations for the 2021 Human Rights Awards open Thursday 1 July and there are three categories:

  • Human Rights Medal

  • Young People Medal

  • Community Human Rights Champion

If you know a person, group, organisation, or community that has contributed to promoting or fostering human rights in Australia from 2019 to 2021 (T&Cs apply), we want to hear from you! Submissions close Saturday 31 July.

Australian Human Rights Commission President, Emeritus Professor Rosalind Croucher AM, said it was important to nominate people, organisations and community groups who were contributing to improving human rights in Australia.

"By nominating an organisation or person for a Human Rights Award, it not only acknowledges their contribution and commitment to human rights, but it also provides them with an extra platform to raise awareness of their work," states President Croucher.

"Nominees are often people and organisations who work tirelessly in advocating for a cause but rarely receive the recognition they deserve."

For nomination and eligibility criteria, please refer to the Human Rights Awards webpage.

The winners of this year's Award categories will be announced across the Commission's social channels in December. Make sure you follow the #HRA21 social media campaign to stay up to date:
