Hunter Fatally Shot Near Oberon

A man has died at a hospital after being shot during a hunting trip near Oberon earlier this month.

About 8.50pm on Friday 18 April 2025, emergency services responded to reports of a man being shot on a rural property along Campbells River Road, Black Springs, approximately 20km south of Oberon.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the 69-year-old man for a gunshot wound to the right shoulder before he was airlifted to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.

A crime scene was established and officers attached to Chifley Police District established Strike Force Arthurs to investigate the incident.

Police seized three firearms for a forensic examination.

On Sunday 27 April 2025, police were notified the man has died at Westmead Hospital.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
