Iconic building moving forward

Detailed design work is currently underway for Swan Hill's new iconic visitor, arts and cultural building, Our Place.

Council Director Development and Planning, Heather Green said Architects are working closely with consultants who specialise in construction of modern Art Galleries and visitor engagement to progress the detailed design development.

"Soil tests have been carried out and assessed to assist the structural engineer to design appropriate foundations for the new building.

"Landscape design is also coming together and will include a bush tucker garden, yarning circle, artwork, pathways, and new plantings providing greater access to the riverfront in a public accessible location," she added.

"Native vegetation assessments are being undertaken to understand and mitigate potential impacts on native vegetation."

Ms Green said a site-specific Cultural Heritage Management Plan, prepared by a Heritage Advisor, has been submitted to Aboriginal Victoria for approval.

Ms Green said Council looked forward to sharing detailed designs with the community once they were completed, but some updated images are available for viewing on Councils website.

"We are on track for the building to commence later this year," she said.
