Image released of attempted armed robbery in Bellbird

Police have released a CCTV image as they appeal for public assistance into an alleged attempted armed robbery near Cessnock, NSW Police say.

Just before 7am today, a man entered a service station on Wollombi Road, Bellbird.

The man, produced a weapon, threatened the employee and demanded cash, before fleeing the scene empty handed.

Officers attached to Central Hunter Local Area Command attended the location and commenced an investigation.

Police would like to speak to a man who might be able to assist with inquiries.

The person depicted in the CCTV image was last seen wearing a navy blue hooded jumper, dark coloured cap, dark pants and sunglasses. He was also carrying a purple and black backpack.

Anyone with information is urged to contact detectives from Maitland Police Station via Crime Stoppers.
