Images released after fraud targets vulnerable people, NSW

Images have been released of two men who may be able to assist with inquiries into frauds police allege are targeting vulnerable people, NSW Police say.

Police have been told between Tuesday 17 April and Monday 23 April 2018, two men attended the home of a 73-year-old man, and the home of a 74-year-old woman, and arranged to pay them to clean the two roofs.

It’s believed the men were paid more than $70,000 after convincing each of the homeowners to withdraw cash from several bank branches. The two men did not finish the work and have not been able to be contacted since.

Due to medical conditions, police believe the victims were vulnerable and did not comprehend the seriousness of paying so much for what was an incomplete service.

Police from St George Police Area Command initiated inquiries and have released images of two men who may be able to assist with inquiries.

Investigations suggest the men who committed the offences are Irish or English, and may be travelling around the area conducting similar frauds.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident, or incidents similar to these scams, to call Crime Stoppers.
