The popular and historically significant Cape Bruny Lighthouse Visitor Site on South Bruny Island will be greatly improved with a new four cubicle wheelchair accessible toilet facility.
The works are the first scheduled in a series of site improvements planned for the Cape Bruny Lighthouse site which will be undertaken over the next few years.
The Hodgman Liberal Government has committed $330,000 funding for the project under the Tourism Infrastructure in Parks program as part of its investment to improve tourism infrastructure in parks and reserves across the state.
The new public facility has been designed by Artas Architects and will be constructed by AJR Construct, both Tasmanian companies.
Visitor numbers to this site have been increasing consistently over the last decade reaching approximately 160,000 in the year ending March 2018.
The project is part of the response to increased visitor numbers at this site and is designed to better cater for the needs of visitors now and in the future.
Works are expected to commence late this month and take approximately 6-8 weeks to complete.
Some minor disruptions on site are expected while works are underway but will be kept to a minimum.
