Incident at Midland Highway Brighton Friday 15 September 9.30am, TAS

Tasmania Police would like to thank the members of the public who assisted police in the apprehension of an offender on the Midland Highway at Brighton this morning, Tasmania Police say.

A 29 year old man who was attempting to flee from police, entered a motor vehicle that had stopped in the vicinity and attempted to take control of the vehicle. The female driver bravely refused to assist the offender and he fled the scene.

The offender was then chased on foot by an officer. A passing motorist stopped and drove the officer in the direction of the fleeing man. Their assistance lead to the successful apprehension of the man from Bagdad, who was wanted in relation to a number of Family Violence related matters.

The offender will face charges relating to family violence matters and the vehicle incident.

Other members of the public came to the aid of the driver who was shaken after the incident.

Tasmania Police would once again like to thank all those people who assisted during this time. Police would also like to speak to one of the good Samaritans – a man who assisted the female driver of the vehicle.

Anyone with information or who observed the incident can contact Bridgewater CIB on 62684100.
