The Crisafulli Government is delivering for Queensland's primary producers by growing trade relations with one of our closest and most important neighbours, Indonesia, during a high-level trade mission this week.
Primary Industries Minister, Tony Perrett, is leading the trade mission with a raft of industry representatives, highlighting the vital role of international partnerships in achieving the State's ambitious goal of boosting primary production output to $30 billion by 2030.
On the agenda are meetings with key stakeholders to strengthen Queensland's role as a reliable supplier of high-quality livestock, and explore opportunities in value-added services, including livestock feed, genetics, technology solutions, and best-practice systems for animal health, traceability, and supply chain efficiency.
The visit showcases Queensland's role in supporting Indonesia's food security and agricultural development, with a focus on the beef supply chain, live cattle trade, and sustainable agricultural practices.
Last year Queensland's total agriculture exports to Indonesia, our sixth largest export market, were valued at $718 million, reaffirming the importance of this market.
During a decade of decline under Labor the State's primary industries were mismanaged and neglected, none more so than the cattle export industry but the Crisafulli Government has exporters' backs.
Minister Perrett said Queensland's high-quality feeder cattle, robust biosecurity standards, and commitment to animal welfare made the State a reliable supplier for Indonesia's growing protein and dairy needs.
"Indonesia is Australia's largest cattle export market and with Queensland producing almost half of the national herd, our relationship with this trading partner is critical to Queensland's economy," Minister Perrett said.
"The live cattle supply, especially from northern producers using the state's northern ports like Townsville, is critical to Indonesia's feedlot operations and our state's economy.
"Indonesia is Southeast Asia's largest economy and one of Queensland's most important trading partners. With a population of over 250 million, the opportunities for collaboration in agriculture, food security, and innovation are immense.
"I look forward to meeting and shaking hands with Indonesian importers, it's important they know the Crisafulli Government values our trading partners and Queensland supports live cattle export.
"Queensland is committed to stringent animal welfare standards, and we support best practice along the supply chain, getting it right with our trading partners is a shared priority.
"Keeping our international trade relationships strong and productive is not just about our international reputation, it reverberates back to the balance sheets of family farms and small businesses right across the state to underpin the economies of our rural communities and importantly creates new opportunities for Queenslanders."
