Info caravan following Footscray stabbing

Police are holding an information caravan today (25 August) as part of their investigation into two stabbings on a tram last month, Victoria Police say.

On 28 July, about 8.45pm, two men were on a tram travelling north along Droop Street where they were approached by another man.

The unknown man stabbed both victims before fleeing the scene on foot along Geelong Road.

A 26-year-old Maribyrnong man and a 20-year-old Footscray man were taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Detectives from the Transit Safety Division have released images of a man who may be able to assist with their enquiries.

He is perceived to be of African appearance and was wearing a dark-coloured overcoat, and a dark or black coloured beanie and scarf.

Police will be at the Footscray Railway Station between 5pm and 10pm to speak to anyone who may have information in relation to the incident.

If you are unable to attend, police urge anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident to contact Crime Stoppers.
