Information for those attending State of Origin

A large crowd is expected tonight at Suncorp Stadium for Game 1 of the 2017 State of Origin series and extra police will be on duty to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable night, Queensland Police say.

Advice from Suncorp Stadium management is to avoid possible delays at the stadium gates by arriving early to assist with security process involving bag searches.

Those attending the game are encouraged to take advantage of free travel to and from the stadium on Brisbane Transport bus and Queensland Rail services. This free travel offer applies from midday today until the last scheduled service tonight. Plan your journey on the Translink website here.

The following road closures will be in place and road users are urged to be patient and avoid non-essential travel in the area:

5pm to midnight:

  • Castlemaine Street between Milton Road and Heussler Terrace
  • Boomerang Street between Little Cribb Street and Milton Road

5pm to midnight or later (when safe to open with patron numbers):

  • Caxton Street between Petrie Terrace and Hale Street

9.45pm to midnight:

  • Petrie Terrace between Milton Road and Caxton Street
  • Milton Road between Park Road and Upper Roma Street (inbound only)
  • Cribb Street between Railway Parade and Milton Road

There will be a minute’s silence before the game tonight in recognition of Senior Constable Brett Forte and police recruits will be at the stadium with Police Legacy ribbons.
