Hume City Council shares community members' concerns regarding the use of heavy vehicles along Canterbury Avenue in Sunbury.
The increased movement of trucks on this stretch of road is attributable to works being conducted at 370 Riddell Road, which Council currently has no power to control.
We want to assure community members that we are using every possible tool and power that is available to us to return Canterbury Avenue to being a quiet, residential road. This includes active investigation by Council Officers which have been successfully used recently to stop similar behaviour on neighbouring plots of land.
Beyond this Council is unfortunately limited in its powers to control trucks on this road, however investigations are ongoing to find an avenue for regulation.
We remain committed to working collaboratively with the community and relevant authorities to ensure appropriate action is taken to address community concerns, and we ask for patience as we work through the details under the law.
A community meeting will be held at the Sunbury Hume Global Learning Centre, where we'll be able to give a general update and hear directly from local residents.
