Infrastructure Facts

Michael Ferguson,Minister for Infrastructure and Transport

Labor's attempt to downplay and misrepresent the Tasmanian Liberal Government's massive, job-creating infrastructure program is laughable. They are lying, again, to Tasmanians.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is working hard to turbocharge the economy with our record infrastructure program of nearly $5 billion, underpinning around 25,000 jobs.

This is already underway – if you drive anywhere in our beautiful state, the reality is, you will come across major roadworks.

Rebecca White can't change the facts or the evidence. We are continually delivering successful projects in our state roads and bridges program. Progress updates on our major works are publicly and transparently available in our new, up to date online portal.

FACT: In 2019-20, the Tasmanian Liberal Government delivered infrastructure expenditure of $516 million.

FACT: Since being elected in 2014, the Government has delivered more than 150 discrete roads projects, and last financial year State Roads delivered 38 projects – our biggest year in over a decade.

FACT: The Labor-Green three-year average infrastructure investment in its last term of government, from 2011-12 to 2013-14, was $346.7 million.

FACT: The Liberal Government has achieved on average nearly $100 million more per year than the former Labor-Green government, at $446 million.

FACT: On top of our record infrastructure program, which is already being rolled out, we are also fast-tracking and investing even more into job-creating infrastructure as part of our COVID-19 recovery package.
