Inmate charged with murder - Silverwater

An inmate has been charged after the body of another inmate was located at a correctional facility in Sydney's west earlier this week.

About 11.30am on Tuesday (23 November 2021), Corrective Services NSW officers located a 63-year-old man lying on the floor of his cell inside the facility at Silverwater.

Despite the efforts of correctional officers, the man was declared deceased by NSW Ambulance paramedics.

A crime scene was established, which was examined by specialist forensic officers.

Detectives from Auburn Police Area Command commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man's death.

Following inquiries, detectives arrested a 29-year-old inmate at the correctional facility about 1.45pm yesterday (Friday 26 November 2021).

The man was charged with murder and is due to appear before Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 27 November 2021).
