On Thursday 23 November 2017, Leichhardt, Ashfield and Marrickville Local Area Command’s will be holding the Inner west White Ribbon event at Bridgewater Park, Rozelle, NSW Police say.

The NSW Police and Inner West Council are hosting a White Ribbon event for the Inner West area supported by Roads and Maritime Services.

A morning of entertainment is planned with activities and music to promote the message that we should all stand up and speak out against violence.

Around 120 school students from a number of Inner West Schools will be at the event along with more than twenty stalls from Government and Non-Government stakeholders which include, Inner West Council, White Ribbon Australia, Leichhardt/Marrickville Domestic Violence Liaison Committee, NSW Police Force Band, Road and Maritime, Ventia Boral Amey Joint Venture and Banner shop.

A large White Ribbon banner will be hung from the Iron Cove Bridge as part of the event.

White Ribbon is an International male-led campaign to end violence against women, which originated in Canada in 1991, and is now active in more than 60 countries.

The campaign aims to recognise the positive role men play in preventing violence against women.

It is important to remember that domestic violence does not only mean physical assaults; psychological, mental and emotional abuse that intimidates or coerces a person is also a form of violence.

If you witness domestic violence, if you’ve noticed the behaviour of a family member, friend or colleague change or if you have concerns for the welfare of someone in your neighbourhood, please pick up the phone and report that information to Crime Stoppers.
