Central Coast Council and the local community will today see local environmental planning (LEP) take a digital leap forward with an innovative new web mapping tool that will save time and money, and provide better access and interaction with LEP maps.
Announcing the new web mapping tool, Coordinator General for the Central Coast Lee Shearer said it was a key feature of the draft consolidated Central Coast Local Environmental Plan that went on exhibition today.
"The web mapping tool supports the NSW Government's ePlanning initiatives to drive efficiencies in LEP map production and will give the Central Coast Council and community greatly enhanced access and ability to interact with LEP maps," Ms Shearer said.
"It's a step forward in efficiency and accessibility in LEP map production and use, replacing a system that used to require hundreds of PDFs to be made each time there was a new amendment with just one clean, digitally updated PDF.
For the past 12 months the web mapping tool was successfully trialed as a pilot with the drafting of the Central Coast LEP that consolidated the former Wyong and Gosford local environmental planning instruments.
"The creation of a consolidated LEP is an ideal opportunity to explore and test the feasibility of implementing the web mapping tool," Ms Shearer said.
"It eliminates the need to generate more than 800 individual PDF maps in the creation of the draft Central Coast LEP.
"The web mapping tool positions the Department of Planning and Environment and Central Coast Council as leaders in online digital land use mapping resources for local environmental plans."
