Inquiries underway into death of man in CBD

An investigation is underway into the death of a man at Haymarket this morning.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command were called to an apartment complex in Castlereagh Street about 3.15am (Sunday 4 April 2021), due to a concern for welfare of a man found unconscious in a hallway on the 13th floor.

Police arrived to find a man, believed to be aged 43, unresponsive. Witnesses had been performing CPR before police arrived; however, the man was unable to be revived and he died at the scene.

Police have been told the man was found critically injured after a fight was heard in the hallway.

A 20-year-old man was arrested nearby and has been taken to Day Street Police Station.

A crime scene has been established and inquiries commenced by detectives from Sydney City Police Area Command, assisted by State Crime Command's Homicide Squad.
