The economic transition of the Latrobe Valley will face a comprehensive Parliamentary Inquiry, despite the Andrews Labor Government trying to block its establishment today.
The Yallourn power station will be closing four years earlier than planned, destroying a thousand more jobs in the Latrobe Valley and creating great uncertainty.
The Liberal Nationals believe the Inquiry is needed to build a comprehensive vision and action plan for economic growth and prosperity in the Latrobe Valley, as well as tackle unemployment and disadvantage.
As stated by the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, David Davis:
"It's hugely disappointing that the Andrews Labor Government refused to support this motion. The economic future of the Latrobe Valley clearly needs to be scrutinised and locals must be given a say in their future.
"The Liberal Nationals will continue to fight for those in the Latrobe Valley, who have been forgotten by the Andrews Labor Government."
