The Snowy Monaro community came together throughout March to celebrate International Women's Day 2023, with events in Delegate, Cooma and Jindabyne.
The theme for this year's International Women's Day was "Embrace Equity" with local events proudly supported by Council and the NSW Government through the Reconnecting Regional NSW Community Events program.
In Delegate, a hall full of local residents enjoyed the day with three wonderful guest speakers, including an interview with 95 year old Delegate resident and community volunteer Natalie Armstrong.
The event was delivered with the support of the Delegate Progress Association and funding from the NSW Government. Attendees were treated to a delicious morning tea and lunch by the Delegate School of Arts S355 Committee.
Cooma saw over 50 attendees with a mix of women, men and children enjoying an evening of drumming, Bollywood dancing, the Cantabile Choir inaugural public performance and free entry to the Raglan Gallery's 'Motherhood' exhibition.
The event included guest speakers from Country Universities Centre on innovation, equality and achievement, and a heartfelt presentation about inspiration through loss. A sensational multicultural supper spread was proudly created by members of Cooma Multicultural Centre group Diversitea.
Jindabyne's event was a sold-out success with 80 registrations for an evening of making connections and building confidence during a workshop with Jodie Bruce-Clarke at Rydges Snowy Mountains. The event was supported by the Jindabyne Chamber of Commerce and included a light supper and refreshments.
These events were an opportunity for people to come together to celebrate the achievements of women and to support ongoing efforts towards gender equality. The different activities and speakers provided a wide range of perspectives and entertainment, which made the events engaging and informative for all attendees.
The success of the events would not have been possible without the support of the NSW Government via the Reconnecting Regional NSW Community Events program, and the various local community partners who helped to organise and deliver the events.
