Work has started on a major upgrade of the Logan Reserve Road and School Road intersection in Logan Reserve, to improve safety as the local population and traffic volumes increase.

This Logan City Council project is funded by the Australian Government's Black Spot Program.

Mayor Jon Raven said the upgrade would make a real difference.

"This upgrade is about making sure locals can get where they need to go in a safe and reliable way," Mayor Raven said.

"Logan Reserve is one of the fastest-growing parts of our city, and as more people call this area home, we need road infrastructure that keeps pace with that growth."

"This investment will improve safety at a key intersection and help ensure our road network continues to support the needs of our growing community."

The busy intersection is adjacent to Logan Reserve State School, which leads to increased congestion on weekday mornings and afternoons during school terms.

Division 8 Councillor Jacob Heremaia said the upgrade was critical to the community's long-term wellbeing.

"Local families have been asking for a safer, more reliable intersection at this location for a long time, and I'm glad to see this upgrade underway," Cr Heremaia said.

"This is about creating a safer environment for our residents and easing the pressure on drivers who use this road every day."

The Black Spot Program is a national initiative designed to reduce the risk of crashes by targeting locations with a history of incidents or a high potential for future accidents.

Federal Member for Forde Rowan Holzberger welcomed the start of works.

"Work getting underway on this upgrade is great news," Mr Holzberger said.

"This project shows what can be achieved when different levels of government work together to deliver practical improvements.

"The Albanese Labor Government is proud to be funding practical projects like this that make our roads safer and better."

The project will include the installation of new traffic lights, as well as signalised pedestrian crossings.

Importantly, these will replace the existing school lollipop crossing areas, to provide a safer road environment for students and their families.

Line markings will be updated and turning lanes will be extended to help ease congestion at the intersection.

Road resurfacing and restoration will also be carried out where required, to improve the overall quality of the road.

Council and its contractor will continue to communicate directly with nearby residents, and Logan Reserve State School, to ensure the community is kept informed of the project's progress.
