Homicide Squad detectives are investigating following the death of a person in Kensington on Wednesday, Victoria Police say.
Police attended the Lambeth Street address about 2.30pm on 3 January in relation to other matters.
The police members detected a smell and entered the property, locating the deceased person inside.
The body is yet to be identified and investigators are awaiting the results of a post mortem.
The cause of death is yet to be determined but is being treated as suspicious at this stage.
Detectives have spoken to three people in relation to the death, all have been released pending further enquiries.
